Wedding Photography: why is it so expensive?

Most brides and grooms would like to hire a professional wedding photographer (and possibly also a videographer) to capture the memories from their wedding day.

Some brides and grooms are put off by the seeming high cost of wedding photography. After all, nearly a month’s salary seems a lot to spend on some wedding photographs! Doesn't it? Or does it?

For a wedding photographer to make a living wage from wedding photography, these elements have to be factored into any wedding photography package:

• A wedding photographer’s work is seasonal (usually limited to the spring/summer months) and there are only a limited numbers of commissions that a single wedding photographer can undertake. For instance, of a maximum 52 weekends of the year, a solo wedding photographer may take on only 20-35 weddings a year.
• A wedding photographer also has to pay taxes, insurance and equipment i.e. computers/camera/lenses. (A professional camera body can cost anything from £1,800 upwards and professional lenses from £900 to £1,200 each. Also editing software and computers are also not cheap). Professional albums are also an added cost.
• The time that the wedding photographer spends with you on your wedding day is not the only time spent on your commission. Behind the scenes, the photographer spends time editing the photographs from the engagement shoot/wedding, uploading onto the online gallery and designing wedding albums afterwards.
• Wedding photographers may also visit your wedding venue in advance to scope out the best places for photography.
• However it is not just about equipment, a wedding photographer also will continually invest in his/her own development and training so that they increase their skill set to give you the best possible wedding photographs.

The wedding photographs will be the only thing that you will have after the wedding - a heirloom you can show your kids and grandchildren. You may not look at your album everyday, but they are there everytime when you are ready to take a trip down memory lane.

Here are a few photographs of the 6x4 personalised photography box. The box comes in a variety of sizes to hold from 150 prints up to a massive 1200! It can be personalised on the side with the names of the bride and groom and the date of wedding and topped on the front with your favourite image from your wedding.

I have also included a shot of it next to the 6x6 wedding photography box for comparison. The 6x6 wedding photograph box holds up to a maximum of 150 prints and comes in a classy black. Find out more about the 6x6 wedding photograph box here.

Ask a Photographer: Copyright CD

If you have ever wondered what all this wedding speak means... then wonder no further. Today we look at what a copyright CD and a disc with printing rights means.

A bride and a groom may have a disc of images included in the wedding photography package they purchased. This disc is sometimes wrongly referred to as a copyright CD.

Technically the photographer will retain copyright of the photos as s/he created them and will offer the couple a disc with printing rights to enable the bride and groom to reproduce the photos for personal use.

Mini Wedding and Portrait Albums

Here is a cool way of showing off your wedding photography with a set of mini albums.

Mini albums can be exact replicas of your main wedding album so they are a great way to say thank you to members of your family or the wedding party.

They are also a great way to be able to share your wedding photos on the go - showing your work colleagues. The mini albums are not much bigger than a normal size photo so are extremely portable.

The mini wedding albums come in packs of 10 - so you can keep some and give some away!

And the mini albums are also great for portrait sessions!

Wedding Album 16x12 and 8x6

Here are a few photographs of some of the wedding albums available from Urban Bridesmaid Photography.

All the albums come in a stunning black presentation box (velvet lined) to keep your wedding album safe for years to come. You can also upgrade the presentation box to have your favourite wedding photo on the front.



The wedding album box opens very easily to enable access to your wedding album. It can be easily lifted out.



This is the magnificent top range 16x12 album which is massive! This beautiful leather wedding album comes with an acrylic cover - front and back and features your favourite photos.

The acrylic cover underneath has tiny feet to ensure that the surface the wedding album is resting on will not scuff the album/acrylic.





Every wedding album should have a full page spread of cake! Yum!

This is the 8x6 parent album, which is a handy (large) handbag size! The 8x6 album is half the size of the 16x12 wedding album, so is ideal, not only as a parent or grandparent album but also a smaller replica of your main album. The 8x6 wedding album being smaller and more portable, is just the thing to take in to show your colleagues at work or when travelling to see family.

















Here is the spine of the 8x6 album. It is black leather with a photographic dust jacket (not shown here). All albums are available either with a photo jacket, acrylic cover or metallic brushed aluminium cover.

The 8x6 album can also be upgraded to a maximum of 40 pages (80 sides).

These spreads are for the beautifully crafted custom designed 16x12 storybook album. Identical replicas of the album are also available as smaller parent albums (8x6) and the 10 pack of mini albums (5x3.75).
