Photography "Oscars"

A new competition is being run up till January 2008. The top prize is $25K with an awards ceremony 21st-25th April 2008 in Cannes France.

Throughout the five days and evenings, a series of events will take place amongst over 300 diverse photographs on exhibit, all derived from the three finalists work in each of the 11 professional categories. The exhibition will be open to the public for five days. On the final evening, (24th April), a spectacular awards ceremony will pay tribute to the photo industry and announce the winners in each professional category as well as the overall amateur winner. One image will be named world photograph of the year and receive the coveted "L’ iris d’Or", including a $25,000 cash prize.

These are the categories that you can enter as an amateur. You can only enter up to 3 photographs.

I decided to enter as an amateur and not as a prof-fessional(!) because the professional categories included stuff like advertising, sport & what not and most of the work I entered is my personal stuff....
